Smart Laundry System FAQs
Can I use this system with any washing machine?
Yes, the O3waterworks Smart Laundry System is compatible with any residential washing machine, regardless of loading style (front load, top-load, stacked) or whether it has high-efficiency (HE) capability.
Does this system require any maintenance or parts later?
No. The O3waterworks system is designed to be ultra-convenient and efficient. It does not need any maintenance, replacement filters or parts for the life of the appliance.
Do I need a plumber or electrician to install?
No. The O3waterworks laundry system installs on the wall, near your washing machine. It comes with a simple to install mounting bracket, and set of water hoses. It plugs into your standard 120 volt outlet, and draws less than 3 amps. Installation normally takes around 20 minutes.
How will I save money using the O3waterworks system?
By using the O3waterworks laundry system, you no longer need to spend money on the electricity to heat water, or expensive chemical detergents. According to the Department of Energy and American Laundry Association, an average family of 4, doing 8 loads per week, will save approximately $665 per year.
Is the O3waterworks system safe for colors?
Yes. Most colored fabrics are safe to be laundered even in the powerful "Boost" mode setting. However, on rare occasions, organic based dyes and dyes with improper colorfastness have been known to fade.
Do I need to separate colors and whites?
No. you can wash colors and whites together as long as the colors have been previously washed.
Do I need to use laundry detergents?
No. With the O3waterworks laundry system you no longer need to use detergents or fabric softeners. Choose “Boost Mode” when you need an extra Boost of cleaning power. If you want to do a laundry load with traditional bleach, choose “NO O3 mode", which will stop the O3waterworks system from producing enhanced oxygen during the wash cycle. Note: It is not recommended to use bleach and enhanced oxygen together, as it will reduce their overall effectiveness.
Can I still use my laundry detergent if I want to?
Yes. You can still use your laundry detergent along with the enhanced oxygen the O3waterworks system delivers. If you still prefer the scent of your traditional detergent, you can use less. Note: If you would like to use fabric softeners, it is recommended to use them in the dryer, instead of the washing machine.
Can I still use fabric softeners in the wash cycle or in the dryer?
Yes. Using enhanced oxygen to clean clothes leaves fabrics not only cleaner, but softer compared to chemical detergents and fabric softeners. Pile tests show that fabrics washed in enhanced oxygen stack thicker and fluffier without the use of detergents or fabric softeners. If you like the added smell of detergents or fabric softeners, you may continue to use them in your washing machine, but it is recommended to use much less, and only to use fabric softeners in the dryer.
Do I need to use hot or warm water like I normally do?
No. With the O3waterworks laundry system you no longer need to use heated water. The enhanced oxygen actually works better in colder water than in heated water so you can stop wasting money heating water for all your laundry needs.
Should I use the extra rinse cycle?
Yes. It is recommended to use the extra cold water rinse cycle, if your washer has this feature. This is especially use- ful for low flow high efficiency machines that use very little water in the wash and rinse cycle.
Why is there less dryer lint after using the O3waterworks system?
The O3waterworks system uses enhanced oxygen (O3) as the cleaning agent, which bonds with the organic contaminants in your clothing. As a result, the fibers in your clothing are damaged less than when using chemical detergents. The increased lint that you see when you do laundry using chemical detergents is the noticeable result of more damage occurring to the clothes.
What setting should I use, “Normal” or “Boost”?
The factory preset mode is for “Normal” enhanced oxygen. You can use it for any or all laundry needs. You can mix your pre-washed colors and whites together. You can choose “Boost mode” for when you want to have increased enhanced oxygen for heavily soiled items like pet beddings, cleaning towels, sports gear, etc.
What is the mixer window for?
The O3waterworks unit has a site window to show where the enhanced oxygen is being mixed into the water stream. You should see bubbles through this window. When the “Normal Mode” is running the site window will have a blue LED back- light. When “NO O3 Mode” is active, there will be no backlight illuminated, because the enhanced oxygen treatment is off for the duration of that wash cycle.
Is the O3waterworks system durable?
Yes. The O3waterworkss system is designed and built to last. It uses 304 stainless steel body and stainless-steel fittings, instead of plastic. It comes with an industry standard 1-year limited warranty.
How long is the laundry system warranty, how long will it last, how will I know when it’s not working and can it be serviced?
The warranty is for 1 year parts and labor. We estimate that it will last a minimum of 3 to 5 years. Note that normal use of the system will result in savings in the first year that are nearly double the original cost of the system. Unlike traditional laundering, O3 laundering has no chemical fragrances that are masking foul odors, the performance feedback is honest and obvious. You will know when the system is no longer performing because the clothes will not smell fresh coming out of the washer. We have a service center available for refurbishing. Please contact our customer service for assistance.
If I can't reach it, can I still use the O3waterworks machine?
Yes. The system comes with a premium radio frequency based remote control, so you can control the system even when in- stalled behind the washer and dryer, in a tight location out of site. The remote signal can even pass through walls.
How does the O3waterworks system reduce pollution?
The O3waterworks laundry system can help reduce pollution in the following ways: Eliminating the need for chemical detergents, so they are not introduced into local water resources. Eliminating the need for heated water during the laundry process, which contributes to minimizing the environmental impact of energy providers (Gas, Coal, Nuclear). The enhanced oxygen in the O3waterworks laundry system does not cause as much wear and tear on clothing fibers as traditional detergents. These tiny fibers break away from clothing and are flushed into the local wastewater system, which can eventually end up in the nearby aquatic environments. The greatest source of these plastic microfibers comes from the traditional laundry process. Approximately 11,000 loads of laundry are started every second in the USA, which contributes to a significant amount of microfiber pollution in our wastewater. It is estimated that there are more than 700 million plastic laundry jugs thrown away into landfills across America every year. If we never needed these chemical detergents to be- gin with then we would prevent this waste from occurring.
How much O3 does the laundry system produce?
The O3waterworks laundry system uses a 600mg/h variable output coronal discharge generator that produces the O3 gas which is introduced into the water line via a venturi injector. The system has the ability to produce more or less dissolved o3 according to the room sensors built in. Sensors including humidity, air temperature and water flow. Then there is an algorithm that controls variable output of the o3 to meet the target dissolved concentration of .5ppm (.5mg/l) on normal mode or 1.0ppm (1mg/l) if you select boost mode. The ability to detect these unique ambient conditions and automatically make adjustments to the ozone generation is the key to this Smart Tech system.
I can smell the enhanced oxygen while the machine is running, is it ok for me to breathe?
Yes. You may notice the smell of O3 during operation, this is normal, and lets you know that the system is working. The enhanced oxygen created by the O3waterworks system is the same compound created by lightning in thunderstorms, which is often why people say their laundry has a fresh, natural rain smell. The O3 levels generated by the O3waterworks system are not harmful. This smell will dissipate once the clothes are dry, leaving a fresh, clean smell, free of chemical perfumes.
Can the water from the O3waterworks system be used for washing pets?
Yes. It is ok for the treated water from the O3waterworks system to be used for cleaning pets.
Is the water from the O3waterworks system drinkable?
No. It is not recommended for the treated water from the O3waterworks system to be ingested. This is because it has not been tested or certified to perform as a water purifier for drinking purposes.
Is the Laundry system ok to use with my hardwater?
The Laundry system is no more sensitive to hard water than your other water processing appliances such as the hot water heater, coffee pots, faucets etc. Depending on the unique chemistry of your water, it may decrease the overall o3 concentration and therefore reduce its overall cleaning ability. If you feel your water is very hard or heavily mineralized beyond average, then it is recommended to have your water analyzed by a professional and install an appropriate whole home water treatment system which will promote better function and longevity to all the water processing appliances and fixtures in your home. We cannot say with certainty how our products will perform for you given the unknown aspect of your specific water chemistry.
Does this system work with well or soft?
The O3waterworks laundry system works well with most water chemistries. In some cases, it may be advisable to use a home pre-filter or conditioner to better protect all water related appliances and fixtures, as it can increase their performance and longevity.
Can the Laundry system be used to clean washable baby diapers?
Yes. Your specific washing machine and how much water is being used is critical. If you have a newer machine with reduced water restrictions, then it will not work as well as a washer, typically older top loader, that uses enough water to actually submerge the diapers and agitate them. Key point is that it takes water to clean. If your washer uses enough water then our o3 machine will deliver enough dissolved o3 in that water to effectively do the cleaning. The first thing that you will see is all the odor and urine stains removed, followed by poo stains. To remove poo stains, use of a diaper stain pretreatment such has Honest Brand, baby stain remover may be needed. The feedback received from users of our machine is that it destroys the ammonia odor and leaves the diapers smelling fresh and void of chemicals which is the primary goal of detergent free washing. This results in no or greatly reduced diaper rashes
Can the Laundry system be used with septic tanks?
Yes, the laundry system is very good for septic systems. There is good bacteria needed in the septic tank that break down the solid wastes. Those bacteria reside primarily at the bottom of the tank. When the water runs off from the washer into the septic tank nearly all of the o3 is already broken down back into water and oxygen. It is in fact good for the septic tank to have additional oxygen rather than chemical detergents and if there is any o3 remaining in the water by the time it reaches the septic it will help to neutralize the surface contaminants and not affect the good bacteria needed at the lower portion of the tank.
Is using O3 for washing clothes a new technology?
No. Actually, many hospitals and major brand hotels have been using a similar type of technology for over 100 years. O3waterworks has re-engineered this expensive and complicated industrial process, and turned it into a convenient, yet effective tool for residential use.
How is this better for my family’s health?
The O3waterworks laundry system replaces the need for laundry detergents. In traditional laundry machines, these chemical detergents never completely wash away from the fibers of the clothing and end up leaching into your body’s largest organ: your skin. It is known that many of these chemicals used in detergents are known to be toxic, and cause cancer and birth defects. Some of these chemicals, such as NPE (Nonylphenol Ethoxylate), are banned throughout Canada and Europe, yet are readily used in the USA.
Is O3waterworks an American company?
Yes. O3waterworks is a fully American owned company. The customer service center, corporate offices and product development/fulfillment center is located in the USA. The manufacturing of the product is overseas.
Sanitizing Spray Bottle FAQs
What type of water can be used in the bottle?
Use normal cold tap water with your sanitizing spray bottle. You can use Reverse Osmosis water for improved performance but do not use distilled or deionized water for damage to the O3 cell may occur. You should never add anything to the water in the reservoir. Adding things like essential oils and other chemicals can interfere with the creation of ozone and damage the internal hardware of the bottle. Do not use heated water.
How does the O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle work?
Our spray bottle makes O3, also known as Enhanced Oxygen or Aqueous Ozone from normal tap water. It creates O3 water through a patented process we call Active Diamond Electrolytic Process Technology, (ADEPT). With ADEPT, water from the bottle reservoir is sent into a chamber where it passes through a solid diamond plate and comes into contact with a direct electrical current. Here, an electrochemical reaction occurs that splits the water molecules to create free oxygen atoms, which then bond together to form ozone. The bottle then sprays the O3 water through the nozzle.
How Do I Know My Sanitizing Spray Bottle is Producing O3?
There are two LED lights on the head of the bottle. A blue checkmark will light up when you pull the trigger. This indicates your bottle is working and producing ozone.
How Does O3 Sanitize, Deodorize, and Clean?
O3 is a powerful natural oxidizing agent, meaning its oxygen atoms can cause chemical changes. When O3 encounters soils, pathogens, and microbes that cause odors or illness, it reacts with them and changes their characteristics. O3 reacts with odorants to disable their odor and attacks bacterial cell walls, killing the pathogens completely.
What Pathogens does O3 Kill?
O3 can reduce the level of some of the most common pathogens by at least 99.9% percent in just 30 seconds compared to other multi-purpose cleaners.
Common pathogens ozone can kill include:

What Does O3 Smell Like?
Have you ever walked outside after a big lightning & thunder storm?
That’s O3! Mother Nature produces massive amounts of O3 during thunderstorms to oxidize the air. However, since we produce O3 in smaller amounts, the smell won’t be as strong, and it will be localized to where it is applied. Because the O3 reverts back to water and oxygen there will be no long-term smell left on your clothes or surfaces.
How Long Should I Charge the Bottle?
You only need to charge the bottle for about 2-2.5 hours. To maximize the battery life it is not recommended to leave the bottle on the charger for more than 4 hours.
How do I know when the bottle needs to be charged?
There are two LED lights on the head of the bottle. A red “X” will light up when the bottle needs to be charged.
How Long Will The Bottle Last On One Single-Charge?
The answer depends on how often you use the bottle. Generally, we find that the charge on the Sanitizing Spray bottle lasts up to three reservoir refills.
I do not see any lights on the bottle when it is charging, Is there a problem?
No, there are no lights on the spray bottle that indicates that it is being charged or that it is charged. There is an LED light on the wall charger that when plugged into the bottle indicates if the bottle is fully charged (green) or if it is charging (Red). When the bottle is unplugged and becoming low on battery it will flash 1 red X light on the spray head or flash 3 red X lights when it requires charging.
How Long is the O3 active once sprayed?
The O3 sprayed from the bottle is active for 5 minutes. O3 is a very biodegradable molecule. Once it is done cleaning contaminants and killing pathogens, it reverts back to oxygen (O2) and water. Every time you pull the trigger, ozone is created on-demand, and the five-minute clock starts.
Why is theO3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle Better Than Other Sanitizers, Deodorizers, and Multi-Purpose Cleaners?
The Sanitizing Spray Bottle uses only one ingredient – normal tap water, to make aqueous ozone that will do more than one thing on more than one surface. Unlike most sanitizers, deodorizes, and cleaners, our spray bottle doesn’t use harmful chemicals, dyes, or perfumes. Many ingredients used in typical multi-purpose cleaners are known allergens and can cause irritation of skin, eyes and respiratory systems, or even asthma. Even some cleaning products that are marketed as ‘green’ or ‘natural’ may have harmful ingredients in their fragrances and dyes. That’s because current regulations do not require manufacturers to list all ingredients on the labels.
On What Surfaces are theO3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle Effective?
You can the O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle to sanitize, deodorize and clean hard non-porous surface such as:
- Tables and countertops
- Door handles and stair rails
- Foodservice prep areas and equipment
- Bathroom surfaces and appliances
- Gym equipment
The O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle is also perfect to use on:
- Pet beds, throws and pillows
- Appliances and other stainless steel surfaces
- Mirrors and windows
Has the O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle Been Tested By An Independent Third Party?
Yes, please see independent third party testing here: Toxcel Toxicology and Regulatory Affairs Report
Can I use Hard water in the Spray Bottle?
The sanitizing spray bottle may use tap water even if it is considered hard or mineralized. Depending on the unique chemistry of your water, heavily mineralized water may decrease the overall O3 concentration and therefore reduce its overall sanitizing ability. If you feel your water is very hard or heavily mineralized beyond average, then it is recommended to have your water analyzed by a professional and install an appropriate whole home water treatment system which will promote better function and longevity to all the water processing appliances and fixtures in your home. We cannot say with certainty how the spray bottle will perform for you given the unknown aspect of your specific water chemistry. If you question your tap water then you can use Reverse Osmosis (RO) water that you can purchase typically in any grocery store for about $1 a gallon. RO water will give you stronger concentration o3 and will allow the device to last the longest.
How long will the bottle last?
The sanitizing spray bottle typically will last at least 600 reservoir fills or up to 5 years. The built in rechargeable Li-Ion battery will last for the life of the appliance and should not need to be replaced. There are 2 LED lights on top of the spray head that provide feedback on the bottles condition. The Blue check light is when the bottle is producing aqueous ozone normally. There is a Red X that informs the user of various conditions such as low battery, charge needed or that he bottle needs servicing. o3waterworks can accept the bottle back for proper recycling once it has reached its end of life.
How much O3 does the bottle produce?
The O3waterworks sanitizing spray bottle uses a diamond electrolytic cell that produces the aqueous ozone on demand as it is being sprayed. The dissolved O3 concentration, using normal cold tap water, is approximately 1.5ppm or 1.5mg/l. The small amount of O3 gas is hardly detectable and is compliant with strict safety standards. The average indoor air level of O3 from use of the Sanitizing Spray Bottle ranged from 0.00123 to 0.00567 ppm, depending on the room of use for the device. These levels are only 1.5 to 7 percent of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of 0.08 ppm. (See Toxcel Risk Assessment report for 3rd party verification.)
Does the O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle produce safe amounts of O3?
Yes, it produces O3 amounts that meet OSHA’s safety standards.
Does O3waterworks Stabilize O3?
No, “stabilizing” controls for the difference in water hardness or mineral content in the water used to produce aqueous ozone. Recent technology advances have shown that it is rare to find a water source that is so hard or full of minerals that the aqueous ozone produced won’t, sanitize, deodorize, or clean. If you live in a place that has very hard water, we recommend installing a water softener in your business or home is a better and less expensive option than stabilizing aqueous ozone.
Who Uses O3 to Sanitize?
O3 is approved by the FDA as a sanitizing agent both at municipal water treatment plants as well as in the bottled water industry. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has also approved its use as an antimicrobial agent. FOOD TREATMENT, STORAGE, AND PROCESSING FACILITIES Aqueous Ozone has been approved by the FDA and the USDA on the treatment of food. The FDA formally approved the use of ozone as an Antimicrobial Agent for the Treatment, Storage, and Processing of Foods in Gas and Aqueous Phases. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS) approved the use of ozone for contact with meats and poultry, including raw products to fresh cooked, and prior to packaging. In addition to direct contact of foods, ozone also can be applied to food processing equipment and non-food contact surfaces as part of a food company’s sanitation efforts. PUBLIC AND PERSONAL SWIMMING POOLS Across the U.S., ozone generators are used instead of chlorine to sanitize pools because it is a powerful oxidizer and works 3,000 times faster than chlorine and uses no harmful chemicals.
Will O3 Create More Antibiotic-Resistant Germs?
Because the killing process of oxidation with aqueous ozone is different from medicinal pathways it DOES NOT contribute to antibiotic resistance.
How should I clean inside the bottle’s reservoir?
To clean the inside of the bottle’s reservoir first make sure the bottle’s battery is charged then follow the steps below to clean and sanitize inside the reservoir. Do not use any chemicals inside the reservoir or damage may occur.
1 - Fill reservoir with normal cold tap water.
2 - Add one teaspoon table salt into the reservoir and shake until dissolved. (Any kind of table salt is ok)
3 - Spray the entire contents of the bottle into a cup. (a 4C measuring cup works great)
4 - Immediately add the salty sprayed water back into the bottle’s reservoir and close the fill cap. Shake and allow to rest for a few hours or even over-night.
5 - Drain the salty water out from the reservoir fill port and rinse with fresh tap water.
6 - Refill with normal cold tap water and use normally.
How should I clean the outside of the bottle?
To clean the outside of the bottle, spray normal cold tap water onto a towel making the towel damp, but not saturated. Immediately use the towel and wipe down the entire surface. Make sure the rubber cap is in place that covers the charging port on the side of the spray head prior to cleaning.
